First, is to move all my blog entries over to My Design blog. Hopefully I won’t lose any of you in the transition,
but why have two blogs and leave one unattended
when I can clean up my other more appropriately named blog

Isn’t this just the neatest kit you’ve seen in a while? I know it is for me. I love love the colors, everything about this kit is so fun!

Good Grief Layout 3

So if anyone has been reading this you’ll know my Dear Father-In-Law passed a year ago. It’s been a long tough year. I go back and forth in my emotions about it. Most days are pretty mellow, I miss him but I can manage. And then there are days I cry at everything. Well this month’s challenge at Good Grief was to tell a story without photos. (These are not my first layouts for Good Grief Challenges about Dad.) And I had the perfect kit for it.

It’s a lovely but odd kit with beautiful flowers and moody dark backgrounds, but it’s the windmills that sold me on this kit for this project. Dad always called my DMIL his “little dutchmen” why it wasn’t dutch girl I’ll never understand, but anyway I’m getting off point. So with the windmill and the beautiful flowers which I thought at first were tulips, but are in fact poppies I created a sweet tribute that I could get some emotions out and accurately portray my feeling with. And the horses, horses always make me think of Dad.

Journaling says:
Dear Dad,
A year has slipped by since you left us so suddenly. I can't tell you how much I miss you, because I have never felt like this before. It often hits me out of seemingly nowhere. Somedays it does not hurt to remember, but most days it does. Somedays I hate you for that, and then I get mad at myself for that. There is nothing to hate you for, you would not have left if you had been given the choice. You worked your whole life, day after tiring day, rarely complaining, crappy farmers wages. But you made sure Mom would be taken care of. I just wish I had appreciated you more when I had the chance, and that is just a shame, I miss you so much.

I like this challenge because I’m in a phase right now of writing letters I have no intention of sending. It’s a nice outlet for my emotions. I can express those feelings we were told all our lives that nice girls shouldn’t feel or dare speak about and it helps me through a lot of things.

Trixie Scraps – Hot For Teacher

Happy President’s Day everyone! I know, not a greeting you get much is it? I got to work with Trixie Scraps – Hot For Teacher. It’s a collab with simply.scraps and it’s so much fun.

I immediately loved it because it has my high school’s colors in it and my mind went to work. Thinking of all the ways I could document my high school memories. Unfortunately I can’t seem to find many of my pics from high school. Maybe my mom has the negatives in a box somewhere? Gotta put that on my list of things to ask her about. But luckily I have made up (in a way) with the subject and he posted some old photos on his Facebook page.

So this layout is very personal, it’s not the complete story of course only a few of us need to know all the details, but someday when my memory is completely gone, this will be enough. ;o)

This is one of those times when you think back and how
high school might not have been that bad… (sigh).
Those summer nights of youth, to be that confident again.

My second layout, I thought were perfect colors of my boys on their first day of school this year. I remember my mom took our picture the first day of school for years. I’m not sure when it stopped, probably when we were old enough to get ourselves up and out the door after she’d left for work. So is the life of a single mom, but I’m sure that was in my high school years.

Scrapper’s Delights – True Romance

Well, as you all probably know by now, I’ve fallen head over heels for Scrapper’s Delights products! I can’t help myself they are just too cute! And if you’ve been reading my blog for any amount of time, once I clamp on to a designer I believe in I don’t let go. See my Winter’s Magic post for the first in what will probably be a long series of gushings about Janice’s super cute kits.

Well this month she released a super romantic Valentine’s kit
that just so classy you’ve got to see it.

Now before you say anything, yes I know my layouts are not Valentine-y. The hubs is not a huge fan of having his picture
taken so there’s not many I haven’t used in other layouts
already so I went the opposite direction and wanted to
show the versatility of this kit.
(And I just have to be difficult/different and not follow the theme.)

Maybe a little explanation would help this one, I’m a big George Burns fan more of a crush actually. I wanted to make this a “born too late” kind of thing, but I couldn’t find a pic of me with George (from Madame Tussaud’s of course) but the cards in the background easily lent to the playing card Janice included with the kit so I just went where it lead me. I made the cards by stretching the red background a little and clipping it to the card face, to keep the shape consistent. Then I added a Vegas style card back with the black velvet alpha included with the kit. A little outer glow and Rickles font and voila! we have perfectly Vegas inspired tribute to a wax idol.

Melly Scraps – Puzzled

Oh, such a bad blogger, I’ve just been playing with all the goodies and not sharing the fun with you.

I’ve got to tell you about this new toy I’ve got from the wonderful Melly, Puzzled Photo Masks. This is sooo much fun I can’t even tell you, and Melly’s made it so easy that… well even I can do it! ha-ha!

You’ve gotta see what I’ve made so far (well other than the stunning sunset photo in the example above, he-he.) When the Sweet Melly asked to include it in her product packaging and I (of course) said yes! My dreams of the next Thomas Mangelson is starting to come true! And if you don’t know who he is you’ve got to check out his absolutely stunning photography, here’s my favorite.

We have a fancy framed up version in our living room, I love it so much. She reminds me of my dear sweet old lady dog, Raskal.

Can you see the resemblance? The salesman at the gallery said that the bear is a female that had spent the morning down on the river scarfing down salmon after salmon during their up river run and crawled herself up to this old log and settled down for a long nap. Whether that’s true or not I don’t know but I love this picture and a “story” is always nice, but isn’t that what scrapbooking all about?

So anyway back to Melly, and here fab new toy. Now I know this goes with out saying but this is great tool for ANY kit you already own, but of course I will show you my examples using Melly’s super fantastic and versatile products, because that’s how I roll!

On this one I put a little perspective “magic” on the puzzle field, which is super easy to do in Elements and I think it helps the illusion of the pieces falling into place.

I want to mention that these masks do work in Elements (I had some problems with E5 but I know it will work with E6,
but that’s all probably operator error ;o) ) And of course with the real version of Photoshop it will work too. Melly has written up some super simple directions so you can “make it work!” and if not you can contact her via email (in the info kit) or leave me a comment here and see what I can do to help you or I’ll get you to Melly.

Seems about right…

I’m not sure who wrote this but I found this online today and she didn’t know where it came from either, so I will share with you. I’m calling it A Crafter’s Christmas…

Twas the night before Christmas,
I’m glued to the tree.
I’m wondering what Santa brought just for me.
Could it be cardstock or ink pads or lace?
Or some stamps, I said, with a smile on my face.
And that’s when I heard him ... “Hi Santa” I said
He replied, “You know ... good girls should be in their beds”.
“I know I should Santa and now I’ve been caught.
But I was just so excited to see what you brought”
“Well, let’s take a look in this room where you work”.
He shook his head quickly, and left with a jerk.
I heard him exclaim as he put it in gear.
“You’ve got enough crap, I’ll see you next year!”

Melly’s on Facebook

Melly has made a fan page on Facebook! And if you become a fan before Dec 28th you can get a set of cards made with her new Retro Christmas kit! (Not saying anything but I may have made one or two or maybe three of them!) It may be too late to get Christmas cards to our loved one’s in the the mail, but several of the cards have openings for photos would make fantastic Thank You cards for you or the kids! We’ll be sticking close to home this weekend and we’re expecting 12 – 20 inches of snow, we already got about a foot this morning and after a short break it started up again. Retro Christmas by Melly Scraps

Hello all! Can you believe Christmas is almost here? It must be getting close I started on my Christmas cards this week! Haha!

I played around and made some super cute cards (don’t look sis, I want yours to be a surprise, hehe!)

And I did a layout, these are pix from 1950 something, they are of my Grandparents and my Aunt. It was my oldest’s idea to put them in the frames like gifts, pretty clever wouldn’t you say?

Winter Magic by Scrapper’s Delights

Before we start the layouts I want to show you this, from the Better Homes' and Gardens Christmas Decorations slideshow:

My boys and house critters (dogs and cats) would have this thing stripped in minutes!! I can’t even imagine what torture this must be for the children who live in that house! Because if you start eating the tree before Christmas, you’ve ruined the decorations, so

you gotta wait till at least Christmas morning after you’ve taken all the pix of opening presents, right? Well maybe we could start on the backside for now….

Umm with a diabetic in the house I guess it’s best not to even entertain the idea. I’m seriously debating the Second Annual Gingerbread House display. We started the tradition last year and I hoped to keep it going, the boys had so much fun decorating their little house I made for them out of graham crackers, and this year my DMIL picked me up some Wilton cookie cutters that cut out the house shape for you so no messing with patterns. I’m so excited, we picked up buckets of candy at the dollar store yesterday, but now I’m unsure if I should put that much temptation out for the hubs. Maybe we can make a nice one for each of the boy’s classes Christmas party next week, that will get the bug out of my system, but they won’t get all the fun they had last year, hmmm decisions, there’s always sugar free candies, but I’m not real big fan of the taste or the effects. So we’ll see, I just have to hide them maybe.

So I HAVE to show you this super fun kit from Scrapper’s Delights, it’s new this month and I got to play with it, I had so much fun!! I’ve said it before and I know I will say it again I’ve very nervous of fantasy kits, but in the end I have soooo much fun with them that I don’t know why I get so nervous, it’s kind of freeing to have an imaginary world where you can do what you want. So here’s what I came up with for Winter Magic, the little fairies in the kit are sooo stinkin’ cute (and kinda hot too!) that I couldn’t resist. I’m gonna make The Hubs a new backdrop for his computer with these pretty girlies too! ;o)

This is our house this year, we switched to LED icicle lights last year, this year I found the blue so we mixed them up, let me tell you what, there isn’t a spot in the front yard you can’t see, these suckers light up the place! And with all those penguins in the front yard, you gotta make sure they are seen. (LOVE penguins!)

This is my oldest boy over his first four Christmases, I love the bow on the top of his head and the crazy hair as he rips wrapping paper apart in front of the tree, and that is our tree actually. Janice put some gorgeous trees in the kit, but to keep it realistic (ha!) I added ours. Best tree I’ve ever had, it’s fiber optic so no lights to string!! I rarely put ornaments on, with little hands, inquisitive kitty paws, and lab’s tails, there’s just no keeping ornaments safe. So I hang a garland of green on the wall or across the curtain rod and hang them from that. Keeps them safe because you never want to find your dog eating the kid’s macaroni art ornament.

Well, that’s about it for today, tomorrow I am the bearer of Trixie Scrap’s present for her 4th day of The Twelve Days Of Christmas. I can’t wait to show you! But run over to Trixie’s today and get caught up on all the lovelies the ladies have made so far.

Oh my, what great things have been happening to me…

First, let me say I’m sorry it’s been so long since I’ve posted. Time just slips through my finger and I don’t know where it gets to. New boy appointments and me appointments and housework and all those things I should be doing but I’m just to worn out to do start stacking up and you just don’t know where to start…..

But in the time since I’ve been here I’ve added TWO new CT responsibilities!!!! (And dropped one but it’s all good.)

I am now a member of Melly Scraps CT and it’s so great! I fell in love with her Icing kit way many moons ago but hesitated on buying it and then all that stuff went down that eventually took down Digital Candy (still a little sad and confused about all that) and so bye-bye when Melly’s shop. Well, she is back and set up at Digi Scraps Drive-In and has some fabulous things!! Her CT is a little small right now but we’ll take care of her while she climbs to the top. (I will follow this post with some fabulousness from Melly.)

And just this week I was picked to join Trixie Scraps fabulous team too!!! Wow how much better can it get than to get to work with either of these great ladies?!?!?! I also loved Tracy’s work from DC and followed her around after she took up at Scrap Matters (a really nice shop too) and voila, a few months later here I am a new CT member on a great team.

Add that to Redju and the combined talents of the Designers at Enchanted Studio Scraps (who can I mention now is planning and all out super shindig for their birthday in January!!!) any way, I have a FULL plate of super kits to work with and I am going to try harder to get everything up here in a more timely manner. So watch for my little site to under a little makeover, I just had a thought for a fabulous new look so I better get to getting my blogging done so I can get to making!

Week Two!

Well I squeaked by to make it into Week Two of the SAS-y Lady Competition. This weeks kit was to based on a color that was a dark pink (BA3175, for those playing at home.) And the theme Best Friends. Well, I made my take about Military Families. Here’s what I came up with….

There are a few extra elements in the picture because well, I forgot what I was doing and put too many things in the preview, but was running out of time and so I had to scramble to reupload to 4shared so the preview didn’t get adjusted. The add-ons will be up tomorrow for you to download, I’ve run out of time this afternoon and need to go vote in the local primaries, start dinner then I will be back to put it all together for your downloading pleasure. Hello and Welcome to my blog. I’ve created this blog to highlight my digiscrap designs. Wait till you see what I’ve been up.

Thanks to Stone Accent Studios, I’ve jumpstarted my quest to design digiscrapbook kits. Tomorrow I will upload my very first mini-kit. I’m so excited I can’t wait to show, so I will start with a sneaky peak!

Could I be the next SAS-y Lady?

Stone Accent Studios started a designer contest, and I signed up. I don’t know what I was thinking, I guess I’m desperate to try something new. The GingerScraps Survivor was a bust and I’m afraid to find out what the result of Gotta Pixel’s CT contest yields. (I’ll post that soon too!)

My body has me kind of trapped right now my hands still work like I need them too (most of the time) so I thought I’d try this avenue. Although the good news is the MS specialist I had to go two hours one way to see says it’s not MS, he also say there’s really nothing wrong with me, just stress, and maybe writer’s cramp. (SERIOUSLY! who diagnoses writer’s cramp?) Of course he doesn’t seem to acknowledge fibromyalgia is a real disease either so I’m not real impressed with this guy, spend a day in my body and see what fibromyalgia is! I’m thinking he should have retired a few years ago if you know what I mean. I mean he couldn’t get it through his head that the reason the cd with my MRI scans wouldn’t work on his computer is because it was burnt onto a DVD. Way to keep up with technology grandpa! But his mac and iphone worked just fine. Anyway… enough ranting I could go on about this guy for hours I’m so mad.

Back to my SAS-y Lady work, this week’s challenge is to make a mini-kit to coordinate with their monthly collab Autumn Twilight, sorry no vampires in this one.

I’ve got a few papers made, but working on the elements my confidence is starting to slip. And second thoughts are setting in. I’ve been avoiding seeing the other contestants entries just so I don’t kick myself more or accidentally copy anyone’s work.

Wish me luck, the entries are due tomorrow afternoon so I got a lot to do still, hopefully I will be able to update my blogware by then too. (Crossing fingers but it makes the typing harder! ha-ha)

Good Grief, 1

There is a fantastic blog I stumbled across the other day, it’s called Good Grief. The concept of the site is for scrapping our way through a loved one’s death. The current challenge Song Lyrics.

I made a layout with George Strait’s “Love Without End, Amen,” of the hubs and his father.

And it was so interesting/cathartic I continued with a companion page of myself with my father-in-law. I went sparse to continue the theme of the lyric’s lines. “Love Who You Love” sung by Rascal Flatts.

Credits for both layouts all papers and elements by Kristin Aagard from Up In the Air, Lil Bakery, Sun Showers and Strolling Through the Park. Fonts: Amazing Ruler, LD Remington, Just One More.

August Pretty Scrappy Collab Kit – Drama Queen

The sequel to last month’s Drama King collab is Drama Queen, a beautiful kits with rich colors, adorable elements and my new favorite thing: Flair! I of course did not scratch the surface of the fantastic goodies in this kit but here’s a peek at what I did.

My first layout is a baby me with what my mom still thinks is the best hairdo for a baby: The Gerber Baby Curl. (ewck!)

First there’s Bittersweet by Tricia Curtis Designs

Super rich and luxurious, perfect for a lady like Debbie Reynolds, she’s just the best, such a trooper through all life’s up and downs.

This layout is of the pond at my in-laws, hopefully some day this will be in my front yard (come on PowerBall!) I made a little bracket frame (all by myself!) to try and highlight the crane in the water. (Dear Santa, I would love a new camera for Christmas…)

Next up we have He’s On the Go by Valarie Ostrom Designs

I posed my boy on the car creeper (10 years ago!) and this is the perfect kit for his sweetness!

I used a template by Brenda Miller from her Blueprints by Brenda August template challenge at Gotta Pixel. Starring me with the luminaries of Vegas, Debbie Reynolds (of course) Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson (mmm), and Ben Affleck (sigh).
And I had so much fun with it I had to make a companion starring my Dear Darling Hubs…. with a Playboy Bunny, Marilyn Monroe and Lucille Ball.

Ginger Scraps Scrappin’ Survivor!?!

Small Hops = Huge Leaps!!

Our boys are pretty rough and tumble when they are inside the protective walls of their room, but outside they've never been real hands on adventurers. Well, this year seems to be a year of huge progress for them both! A. helped me in the garden a few weeks ago and carried the worms from the established beds to the new raised beds. That's just HUGE for him.

But it gets even better, he actually caught a little frog the other day!!!! That's SO HUGE!!!! I can't tell you how excited I was, so I will share the video with you. I can't believe I actually caught it on video and it just makes me giddy to think about. It may not seem like much to most people but to us this is just amazing. It shows something we're doing is working. And yes we're in a cemetary. We went have dinner with my father-in-law who passed just this February. We were there with my MIL, it would have been their 42nd Anniversary. It may be unorthodox, but that's how we roll baby!

I've Been Chosen....

Wow! What a lucky month June was for me. I was chosen for CT's two more times!! Can you believe it? I'm so lucky to be picked up by Enchanted Studio Scraps AND Redju Designs. Awesome!

This month my designer at Enchanted is Bucket of Butterflies, is that a great name or what?!? And Redju has a fantastic fantasy kit coming out, wait till you see it. I didn't know if I could do fantasy, but guess what I did 2 layouts, it was great, I can't show you yet, but I'm so excited and quite impressed with myself.

And of course from Pretty Scrappy don't forget to Drama King (see last post) and look for layouts from Late Night Scraps, JScrapbug and Laurie's Scraps. So much good stuff, I will post my layouts soon, some heritage pages too, wait till you see!

I'm so excited this is my first month at Pretty Scrappy and I'm having a great time! The ladies there are so nice, patient and helpful!! I can't wait to show you what I'm made with their fantastic kits:

First I will start with the fantastic Pretty Scrappy Team Collab kit; Fun in the Sun. Wow this thing is huge! 41 papers and 82 elements, let's not forget the 2, yes 2 full alphas.

Fun in the Sun is jam-packed with side walk games and activities. It is great whether you have bike riders, jacks players or chalk art designers. This summer get some photos of your kids playing with their everyday toys and then showcase them with Fun in the Sun.. then you can have a ball too!

And speaking of messy adventures, Andrew and Derek went Morel hunting with his Poppa, and while they didn't get any shrooms, Derek did get some great pics of his brother.

With no little girls in the house, I had to dig out some of my old pix to work with.

And lastly I have Double Dutch Designs 3 Ringed Circus. Such a fun kit that shouldn't be limited to circus pix, but I just couldn't resist. I think this would be fantastic for birthday pictures or to celebrate any kind of fun you my have.

Wow, I was starting to lose faith in myself. But I was picked up as a CT member for Pretty Scrappy for 6 months. I'm so excited I can't even begin to tell you. There's no money in it, but I get free digiscrap kits I get to start into the pile of pages I should have been making all this time and I get to learn from some really great team members!

I would never say the freebies I've downloaded in the past were subquality, because they are not! I'd have been happy on a freebie CT but alas it was not to be and now I'm a Busy Bee at Pretty Scrappy. As soon as I do my first assignment and start my gallery I will post the link here along with so many other things about the cool happenins there.

Piccolina's 100th Post Contest

Piccolina Designs was having a contest for her 100th post and although I didn't win, much to my son's dismay, we did place. So I got a great Christmas mini-kit, Polka Dot Christmas. So Karen Lewis and Danielle Engebretson have this great kit at Gotta Pixel called Total "Mom"-Sense, it's the best! I was so inspired I've made a desktop with the elements. The background is from Karen's Forever Friends. The acrylic flower and cupcake circle are from Kristen Aagard. The fonts are New Day MT and Fmiring Campotype both from DaFont.

Here are my layouts. The zoo theme was obvious so I tried to do somethings that were different to show it's flexibility. And so I found these pix of Derek when he was a year old and voila!

Instructable!!!!

I wrote my first Instructable! For a contest to win a laser! Like I used to use to do engraving but smaller. I'm so hopeful! Kind of new for me, but I am really. I wrote instructions to upcycle tshirts into grocery bags. It's less about the presentation and more about the idea, at least that's how I look at it! Cross your fingers for me I'm so excited.

My dear Raskal, what can I say? She's my girl, frustrating as anything in her old age, but I can't imagine her not being here, but she's going to be 13 next month (April) and I'm really starting to worry about her. She's starting to show some real signs of aging and she's really not doing much more than she needs to, except when there's food involved. So I guess I've gotten introspective about her lately and started making some pages starring my girl.

This one is using Mel H's "Down By The Lily Pond" kit. Except for the polaroid frame which is AmelieScraps and the postage stamp frame from Pepeetjes Freebies. Oops almost forgot the fonts, one of my favorites the scripty one, Honey Script. And the printed letters JI- Khedas. (Which I can't find a link for right now.)

Here is a background (wallpaper 1280 x 800) I created with freebie kits from Bel Vidotti Scraps (background and pink butterfly are from the Pinks collection and blue butterfly from the Equilibrium collection) and Digi Cyber Scraps (glittered heart strip from the CSR Valentine Convoy with a minor modification of the pink heart from a different graphic in the collection). Oh and brushes from my favorite brush maker Bsylvia/Green Bulb Gang. (PS: While checking my link I saw she has a new brush, Birds, with a freebie!!)

Freestyle Challenge at

This layout is for the Freestyle Challenge (Jan 09) at Stone Accent Studios hosted by Toiny of PiggyScraps. (I really like her stuff and she has great posting bonus's and freebies on her blog.) This month's challenge was to use multiple pictures in the layout and she provided the frame as inspiration to get us started. Well I loved the frame so much I used it to frame out some pictures of my inlaw's place again, to eventually make a desktop background for my husband.

Gotta Pixel Challenge Week 4

The fourth challenge at Gotta Pixel was to go crazy with Sarah Burger's Sweet Couture Scrapkit. The font is called: Eutemia 1.

For this challenge I dug up the pictures of the land at my in-law's that we would like to build a house on someday. I took the grid out of the window provided in the kit because I think it made it too hard to see out of the window, made too much white on the page and was hard to look at. I also used the floral print to make curtains with some extractions and skewing the shape to look folded. Like the last challenge we could use actions, shadows, things like that so I copied the shapes I needed shadows on and darkened the layers and played with placement to give it a more realistic look. I like to use drop shadows, it just gives it a finished look to me.

Gotta Pixel's "Play With Your Pixels" Challenge

This is the third challenge in Gotta Pixel's challenges to find a new CT member.

I chose to make my darling Raskal the subject, the challenge was to use "white space." Something I'm not that good at, I like to use lots of pictures, I guess it's the cheapskate in me (yah know gotta get my money's worth.) But I think I did well on this one. I got several nice comments from other Gotta Pixel members. Which is expecially nice when you're new to this.

The kit, Snuggle Up was provided by Sarah Meyer. I enjoyed playing with the elements and even unraveled the sweater background from the kit and joined it to the string element provided. (I have to say I was quite proud of myself for that.) The kit designer even made a comment that she liked the unraveling bit! Wow!

The font in the tag is BottleRocket BB.

Digitals "It's Only Words Challenge" Jan '09

My entry for the Digitals "It's Only Words Challenge" last month (Jan 09) hosted by Kathryn Estry. My youngest got ahold of my camera while we were on a short road trip to Two Harbors, and away he snapped. Thank goodness it's a digital camera, he took over a 100 pictures. Mostly of himself (so he could see it in the preview) and his feet. But I just think they are the cutest!
